The career fair will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 3 in downtown Bensenville in conjunction with the annual Music In The Park event. Among the many union trades represented at the event will be the Electricians , Carpenters, Bricklayers, Laborers and Pipefitters, with more expected. The event gives people the chance to learn what it takes to apply to an apprenticeship program. CISCO Added As One Of Sponsors For National Labor-Management Conference – August 17-19 For the first time in eight years, the National Labor-Management Conference presented by the Federal Mediation & Conciliation Service will be in Chicago. The biennial event, titled “Future @Work” will be held August 17-19, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Chicago Hotel, 151 East Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL 60601. CISCO will present a 90-minute workshop during one of 60-plus breakout sessions/panel presentations from 3:30 – 5:00 pm on Thursday, August 18. CISCO Teams With Career Development System On First-Ever Hands-On Expo CISCO and Career Development System (located on the campus of South Suburban College) co-sponsored its first-ever Hands-On Expo recently at the Pipefitters Local 597 facility in Mokena, 10850 W. 187th Street. Approximately 200 students from several junior high schools attended the one-day event. Building Trades representatives from the Pipefitters Local 597, Operating Engineers Local 150, Carpenters, Laborers, Bricklayers, Painters and Plasterers, and Roofers Local 11 were on hand to demonstrate techniques unique to their trade. Students benefited from talking to instructors and apprenticeship coordinators, as well as trying out a variety of activities set up by the instructors. Prevailing Wage Survey Deadline Extended to August 1, 2016 ATTENTION ALL UNIONS AND UNION CONTRACTORS – The deadline for the Illinois Department of Labor’s (IDOL) Prevailing Wage Survey has been extended from June 30 to August 1, 2016. Under the Prevailing Wage Act, the IDOL has the responsibility to “investigate and ascertain the prevailing rate of wages for each of the 102 counties in the State.” Click on the link HERE to enter the wage and fringe benefit information electronically on the IDOL website. Apprenticeship Program Openings Chicago Regional Council of Carpenters: Effective Thursday, July 7, 2016, each local union will be entitled to refer 20 candidates to the Apprentice Program Office, 1256 Estes Avenue, Elk Grove Village, IL, to apply for future Pre-Apprenticeship training classes in GENERAL CONSTRUCTION. The policy of this Program is to encourage veteran, minority and female participation. Therefore, a minimum of 8 minority/female/veteran candidates shall be referred during this application period.
